An entertainment center has become an essential part of family life, as we gather around the tv to watch the latest dvd, catch up on the news, play a video game, or root for our favorite “American Idol” contestant. But how do you organize all of it? The challenge is to keep the entertainment center from becoming a cluttered mess of dvds, video games, controllers and wires. That’s no fun! We can show you how to get organized in style.

When we are designing a home entertainment center, the first thing we consider is how to blend the design with your home’s decor. For the entertainment center pictured here, the homeowner wanted a classic, timeless look. So we included raised panels on the doors of the storage cabinets and the drawers, crown molding and glass inset in the doors. The homeowners chose an elegant “Summer Flame” wood grain laminate for its slightly masculine look and rugged appeal. We added a slim mica countertop in a contrasting color for added appeal and versatility.

Secondly, when we are designing this or any home organizing system, we take into consideration how you are going to use the entertainment center–how big is your tv, what other equipment do you have, and what do you need to store? The centerpiece of the entertainment center is, of course, the television, which here we hung inside the unit for optimum viewing. DVDs and games can be displayed on storage shelves behind the glass doors, so you can find what you’re looking for quickly. Those beautiful raised panel doors hide sturdy storage shelving, which holds all the audio visual equipment.

Finally, we realize that this unit is going to get a lot of use, so we install really hardy European style hinges and full extension ball bearing slides, so the kids can’t destroy this entertainment center no matter how many times they open the doors and drawers. This isn’t an exceptionally large home media center, but as a home storage unit, it holds lots of stuff–and helps you get organized in style!
